Search the Catalog
The main search box for the online catalog looks like this:
Search types: Click on the blue buttons to enter the search as keyword search, an author search, a title search, subject search, etc. A keyword is a general search that looks for any match to the words entered. For more about subject searching, click here.
Choose a library: The catalog automatically searches in all the branches of Cass County Public Library. If the item is not in the Cass County Public Library holdings, try searching other libraries in the consortium. Use the drop down menu as shown below to ask the catalog to search in other libraries or in all Kansas City Library Consortium libraries simultaneously. To select All, scroll up in the drop down menu.
Example search: Here is an example of a title search in Cass County Public Libraries for The Great Gatsby:
Example search results: As these results show below, the library owns seven available copies of this edition located in the branches listed. Either place a hold by clicking on Place Request ( to find out more about placing holds, click here) or find out where to find the book on the shelf by clicking on the picture of the book or the title of the item shown circled below.
Clicking on title, will provide you with the call number or shelf location of the item. This book is located at F FIT and YA FIT in the branches listed. F stands for fiction, YA stands for young adult; FIT are the first three letters of the author's last name.
