Collection Management Assistant (Courier-Focused)

Cass County Public Library – Administrative Offices

Part-Time (0-30 hours) with an average of 15 hours a week

Wage: $15.00

Cass County Public Library is seeking a Part-Time Collection Management Assistant with a strong focus on courier and delivery operations – specifically sorting and preparing materials for delivery (not driving) to join our Collection Management Department. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, and enjoys keeping library materials moving efficiently throughout our system and partner libraries.

As the primary courier clerk, you’ll be at the heart of our materials distribution process—receiving, sorting, packaging, and ensuring timely delivery of library items to branches and consortium partners. In addition to courier work, you may help process new library materials while supporting the overall mission of providing excellent service to our community.

Key Responsibilities

Courier & Delivery (Primary Focus):

  • Receive, sort, package, and distribute library materials from internal and external couriers.
  • Prepare items for delivery to other Missouri Evergreen Consortium libraries.
  • Ensure accurate, timely delivery across branches and partners.

Additional Duties:

  • Process new book and media shipments and prepare items for circulation.
  • Check in periodicals, assist with withdrawals, and perform light repairs on materials.
  • Maintain an organized, efficient workflow and communicate effectively with staff.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • Library experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to follow instructions, pay close attention to detail, and work efficiently.
  • Able to lift 25–50 lb crates and push 100 lb carts; comfortable with physical work (standing, bending, reaching).
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Youth Services Coordinator

Cass County Public Library – Administrative Offices

Full-Time |$24.00 – $25.00/hour | 40 hours/week | Full Benefits

Cass County Public Library is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Youth Services Coordinator to lead and support library services for children and teens (birth through age 17) across the county. This full-time, non-exempt position provides system-wide leadership in programming, collection development, staff training, and collaboration on outreach efforts that serve youth and their caregivers.

As a key member of the Library Management Team, the Youth Services Coordinator plays a vital role in shaping youth services that are inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with community needs. The position also identifies and secures grant funding to enhance youth-focused initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate system-wide youth programming, including Summer Reading, Winter Reading, and 1000 Books Before Kindergarten
  • Support branch staff in developing high-quality programs focused on early literacy, STEAM, school readiness, and teen engagement
  • Select and maintain youth collections (print and digital), and coordinate weeding with branch staff
  • Respond to challenges of youth materials and advise on intellectual freedom issues
  • Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring staff who work with children and teens
  • Develop and maintain best practice guides, programming templates, and professional development opportunities
  • Identify, write, and manage grant applications to secure funding for youth services
  • Build partnerships with external organizations to expand program reach and resources
  • Collaborate with branch staff on outreach strategies and with the Marketing department on promotion and digital content
  • Participate in strategic planning, policy development, and management team initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution (MLS or MLIS)
  • 2–4 years of professional experience in youth services in a public library or educational setting
  • Demonstrated expertise in child development, youth literature, and library best practices for youth
  • Experience writing and managing grants for library or educational programs
  • Strong leadership, communication, and digital literacy skills
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel within the county
