Meet your reading goals by July 27 for an award book and for an invitation to a special party.

  • Pre-readers: 25 read-to-me books
  • Reader to 5th Grade: 10 books
  • 6th - 12th grade: 5 books

You can even get started on your reading goals with our collection of ebooks for children, or by downloading ebooks or audiobooks from our collection in Overdrive!

Hungry Heroes: Learn about good nutrition and healthy eating for growing heroes through stories, crafts, activities, and snacks. For Beginning readers through grade 5. Mondays, 2:30pm through July 27.

Super Hero Training Camp: This is a challenge to build your own Super Hero. We will kick off this event with a special, guest appearance of "Cowgirl Kate the Clown"! Each week we will be having a super hero themed story, an activity challenge, and make a part of your "hero" costume. This program is intended for  preschool age through 1st grade. Tuesdays, 10:00am through July 28.

"A Day in the Life of a Superhero": A play by the Buck Family of Drexel.  Come and enjoy this adventure of Tris and her becoming a superhero!  All are welcome.Wednesday, June 10, 10:30am.

eBooks for Kids: We have eBooks for kids! Want to learn more about them? The library's technology coordinator, Steve Erichsen, will be here to answer your questions and help you with your eReader. Parents are welcome. Monday, July 13, 2:30pm.

End of Summer Reading Event - Super Silly Songs & Stories with Will Stuck: Stories, songs and general nonsense guaranteed to tickle your funny bone. This will be held at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 302 S Missouri St, Archie, MO. Monday, July 13, 10:30am.

Storytime: Join us for stories and fun activities/crafts. Tuesdays, 10:00am in August.


Opening Party: Teen helpers will sign up the kids. Reading requirements will be reviewed and the kids will receive their reading logs. The kids will make their capes and masks. This will be for kids of all ages. Supplies provided by Brad and Patti Bodenhamer, Drexel United Methodist Church and Harrisonville United Methodist Church. Monday, June 1, 2:00pm.

Hungry Heroes: Come learn what fuels your super body with Rhonda Kasper from the MU Extension. Thursdays, 2:00pm through July 23.

"A Day in the Life of a Superhero," a play by the Buck family: Experience a day in the life of Tris as she becomes a superhero. Her wacky day starts horribly and only gets worse as she meets the people at the Superhero Agency. After becoming a fully operational superhero she sets out to find a villain to defeat. Meeting a very annoying young woman, who just wants to be a side kick. They try to take on a super evil villain who is trying to take over the world. Will they be able to team up and save the world or will they fail? Come and join us in this new exciting adventure to see what happens! Monday, June 8, 2:00pm.

Cup Stacking Competition: Individual students will stack cups into a pyramid. This activity promotes hand-eye coordination, quickness and ambidexterity. The kids will be divided into groups of similar ages will compete with each other. Cup stacking supplies provided by Drexel Elementary School. Laurie Jacklovich will be the judge. Monday, June 15, 2:00pm.

Bingo: The kids will play bingo and win prizes. This activity is for kids of all ages. Monday, June 22, 2:00pm.

Be a Conservation Hero: Phil Needham, conservation agent, will present a program to the kids. This activity will be for kids of all ages. Supplies provided by Missouri Department of Conservation.

Superhero Movie (Sky High): The kids will watch a movie about a super hero. Kids of any age can watch the super heroes in this movie find out about their super powers. Monday, July 6, 2:00pm.

Summer Reading Program Closing Party: The kids who have completed their reading logs will make Marshmallow Blasters. When they turn in their reading log kids will receive a “superhero” bracelet. Monday, July 13, 2:00pm.

Toddler Storytime: Weekly story time. Join us for stories and activities. All are welcome but this event is best for those 3 years old and under. Wednesdays, 10:00am in August.

Summer Reading Program Kick Off—Superhero Training Academy: Calling all prospective Superheroes! Make your costume, hone your skills, save the day!Monday, June 1, 10am - 12pm.

Community Heroes Storytime: Each week, come meet a new community hero! Thursdays, 10:00am through July 30 (Super Wacky Water Day will take place in lieu of storytime on July 16).

LEGO® Club: Are you a Master Builder? Come test your skills with weekly challenges at LEGO® Club! Ages 6 - 12. Space is limited, so come early! Thursdays, 4:00pm through July 30th.

Super Art: Come create original Superhero art with professional artist, Darla Zook. Monday, June 8, 10:00am.

Every Hero has Fun!: Michael Bradley will entertain with stories, songs and games that will get families on their feet! Superhero Training Academy: Leap tall buildings in a single bound! Test your Mighty Muscles! Participate in a daring rescue mission! Crafts & fun for all ages, all day. Monday, June 1, 9:00am - 8:00pm.

Super Toddlers: Toddler story time. Stories, songs, rhymes and bubbles for toddlers and their caregivers. Approx. 20 min. long. Ages 12 months - 36 months.Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 9:30am in June & July.

Stay & Play: Stay after Friday toddler story time and enjoy some playtime & visiting with other toddler and parents. Educational manipulative toys provided. Fridays, 10:00am in June & July.

Preschool Heroes: Hero-themed stories, songs, rhymes and a craft. Approx. 45 min. long. Ages 3 - 5. Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 11:00am in June & July.

Newbery Newts Book Club: Take the Newbery Challenge! Read five Newbery Award winning books of your choice this summer for a special recognition. Share what you've read with the rest of the group on the first Wednesday in June & July.  Wednesday, June 3, 2:00pm & Wednesday, July 1, 2:00pm.

Pajama Storytime: Wear your PJ's and bring your favorite teddy to story time! We'll have stories, songs and a craft to help get those wiggles out before bedtime (all ages).Thursdays, 6:30 in June & July.

LEGO® Club A is for tweens ages 9 - 12. Test your engineering skills and creativity with weekly Lego challenges. A limited number of tickets are available, which will be available on the Monday prior to the Tuesday meeting. The Science of Superheroes: Explore the world of super science with lots of hands-on science activities for all ages! Monday, June 29, 6:30pm.

Stories & Songs for Heroes: Professional story teller & children's musician Michael Bradley performs Stories and Songs for Heroes. All ages welcome! Monday, July 6, 6:30pm.

Not All Heroes Wear Capes: Join us as we honor local heroes such as police officers, firefighters, military veterans and more! Write a letter to a service person for Operation Gratitude, see the fire truck, squad car and rescue boat used by LSUR. Popsicles, stickers and American flags for all! Monday, July 13, 6:30pm.

Comic Book Artist: Special guest Rob Schaumbarger will teach you how to make art and make it as an artist. Mr. Schamberger is a Kansas City born and bred artist with a lifelong love of comic books, illustration, street artists, quality crime dramas, and other hipster things. Ending Celebration for Super Readers!: Congratulations! You've read all your books and completed the summer reading program. Now come celebrate at our ending party. Children's entertainer Dino O'Dell will be performing. Inquire at Circulation desk for location. Monday, July 20, 6:30pm.

Tween Artists' Maker Space: Celebrate American Artist's Appreciation Month with us! Supplies and instruction provided for a variety of artistic techniques including print making, flower pressing and more. Tweens 9 - 12 yrs. Monday, August 10,  6:00pm.

Paper Airplane Contest: Happy Birthday Orville! Mark Orville Wright's birthday at our paper airplane flying contest. All supplies provided. All ages. Thursday, August 13, 2:00pm.

Dog Days of Summer: Celebrate National Dog Day! Dog-related stories, movies, crafts and a visit from a local rescue group! All ages. Saturday, August 29, 1:00pm.

Hungry Heroes: Rhonda Kasper, University of Missouri Extension Services, will provide stories, arts and crafts, and nutrition activities for the participants.Wednesdays, 10:00am in June & July.

Critter Carnival: Start the summer off with a fun animal themed carnival in the library parking lot. There will be games with prizes as well as a chance to sign up for the 2015 Summer Reading Program “Every Hero Has a Story”. You never know what animals may be visiting us that morning. All ages. Saturday, June 6, 10:00am.

Win It or Make It Mondays: Stop by on Monday afternoons at 2:00. We'll either be making a DIY project or playing a game. Ages 10 & up. Sponsored by Dogwood Energy.Mondays, 2:00 through July 20.

"Awesome Birds" by Wings of Love: Birds roller skate, ride a bicycle, bowl, spell words, play basketball, speak on cue, etc. with lots of audience participation. This popular program for all ages will be held off-site at the United Methodist Church, 1300 Lexington Rd. Pleasant Hill, MO Sponsored by Dogwood Energy. Tuesday, June 9, 2:00pm.

Sundae on a Tuesday: Come beat the heat with a sundae on a Tuesday afternoon. The library will provide the ice cream and a variety of toppings for a fun summer afternoon treat. Tuesday, June 16, 2:00pm.

Chair Decorating and Crafts: Chair Decorating and Crafts by the Pleasant Hill Town & Country Art League. Tuesday, June 16, 3:00pm.

Shaving Cream and Wacky Water Afternoon: Have a fun afternoon playing with shaving cream and water activities. Come dressed to get messy and wet. This event will happen outside. Flip-flops are not recommended footwear. Please bring a towel. Tuesday, June 23, 2:00pm.

Missouri Department of Conservation Program: Phil Needham from the Missouri Department of Conservation will present a program for all ages. Tuesday, June 30, 2:00pm.

Superhero Movie Afternoon: Beat the summer heat and come by the library to enjoy a superhero movie in the cool air conditioning. Feel free to bring a pillow or sleeping bag to make yourself comfortable. All ages. Tuesday, July 7, 2:00pm & Tuesday, July 14, 2:00pm.

Hot Dog & Bingo Party: Enjoy a hotdog at lunchtime with a drink and stay to play a few games of bingo. Prizes will be awarded to bingo winners. All ages. Tuesday, July 21, 12:00pm.

Summer Reading Program Ending Celebration: The ending celebration will be held on July 23rd. When you complete the reading program, you will be given an invitation with all of the details.

Saturday Story Time: Come enjoy a special Saturday morning story time. There will be stories and a craft. Saturday, August 1, 10:00am.
