Summer Reading Bookmarks Designed by Local Students

When you visit your local library branch this summer, you may notice some new bookmarks. These bookmarks were designed by local students throughout the county.

Earlier this spring, Cass County Public Library partnered with high schools in the county to provide students the opportunity to design a bookmark that would be featured with the 2019 Summer Reading Program promotional materials. The designs had to be hand-drawn as the student’s own creation and fit with the 2019 theme, A Universe of Stories. No computer generated illustrations were accepted.

The library received over 125 submissions from talented young artists representing 8 schools. From those entries, 5 of the top designs were selected and professionally printed for distribution. Selectors included library staff and community members.

The winning designs were created by:

  • Samantha (Pleasant Hill High School) – left (portrait)
  • Carlos (Belton High School) – right (portrait)
  • Adrian (Belton High School) – top (landscape)
  • Lisa (Archie High School) – center (landscape)
  • Ariel (Homeschool) – bottom (landscape)

Selecting just 5 designs was difficult, and we would also like to recognize a few more designs that were submitted. Check out some of the notable entries below.

Pick up your favorite when you sign up for summer reading this summer. They are available at each location. Don’t forget to sign up for Summer Reading, if you haven’t already: http://www.casscolibrary.org/srp.

Thank you to our area high schools and to everyone who participated in the contest. If you didn’t get a chance to submit this year, be on the lookout in early 2020 for next year’s contest!
