There Will be Bubbles!
Bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles. What a simple little thing are the bubbles taking flight and floating over the tiny heads that are dancing, laughing and prancing below them. Simple, yet magical in the eyes of the toddlers who have come to the storytime that morning.
I can’t help but grin and laugh at their joy. It doesn’t matter how grumpy or down I might feel that morning, when I turn on the bubbles and the toddlers start their happy ritual of dancing and prancing and trying to catch the clear floating spheres, my spirits soar as high as the bubbles. It can’t help but lift the spirit.
Many of these little ones can’t really talk yet but the word “bubble”, or something that sounds a lot like that, is spoken with excitement and verve when they approach the story time area. They point with their chubby little fingers at the bubble blowing machine and utter the word bubble, bubble over and over again.
I always assure them that, yes, we will have the bubbles, but not until the end of our program. With that assurance they sit patiently through the stories and participate in the rhymes and songs until the very end when the excitement hits a crescendo and the music is put on and the bubble machine is unveiled. That’s when the fun really begins! When the bubbles cease and the “Goodbye Song” sung they leave, knowing that we’ll be waiting for them next week, the bubbles and the library story lady.
